SHAH ALAM, Oct 19 (Bernama) -- Proton Holdings Bhd hopes that the Budget 2010 will be in line with the new National Automotive Policy (NAP), said its chairman, Datuk Mohd Nadzmi Mohd Salleh.
"The government will announce a new policy for the NAP and I hope the forthcoming budget concept will be in line with it," he said at the company's Hari Raya open house here Monday.
Also present was the group managing director, Datuk Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir.
Details of the review of the NAP is expected to be announced on Oct 27 by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry ( MITI).
Mohd Nadzmi said that Proton Holdings had not received any information on the incentives for the automotive sector, but hoped that the government will continue to support the industry as it is related to many others while stimulating the economy.
Asked about Proton's expectations of the NAP, Mohd Nadzmi said: "We ourselves do not know. Our hope is that the new policy will provide the boost and incentives for any of the automotive companies in the country, which will help the automotive industry."
He said that the government should provide incentives to local manufacturers based on what they had contributed to the industry and not just based on protection alone.
"We feel that such an incentive is better to boost the country's automotive industry," he added.
